ECA Rally to Weymouth

5th - 10 June

ECA Rally to Weymouth via Yarmouth and Cowes Yacht Haven - Wednesday 5th June to Monday 10th June

This is a rally to Weymouth, stopping at Yarmouth for a day on the way and Cowes Yacht Haven on the way back. For those who are considering going to the West Country or across to France this would be a good jumping off rally, just continuing on from Weymouth. Timings for going round the Bill would mean arriving at Darmouth at ~21:00 but there are options to go via Lyme Regis/Exmouth. Your Rear Commodore (Cruising) will be polling those interested about an informal cruise in company to France and the West Country.

Wednesday 5th June - Chichester to Yarmouth

HW Chichester 11:17 4.6

For those in EYH with sailboats leave around 10:00.

Head to Yarmouth. When you are off the entrance call Yarmouth Harbour on Ch 68 and ask for berthing isntructions. Mention you are part of the rally. You will be met by harbour staff in a launch by the entrance and they will guide you in.

Pontoon drinks at 18:00 and eating on board.

Thursday 6th June - Day in Yarmouth

Day in and around Yarmouth Harbour. A bus trip/walk will be arranged for those interested with the possibility of lunch at a pub.

In the evening a meal in one of the pubs will be arranged.

Friday 7th June - Yarmouth to Weymouth

HW Portsmouth 12:45 4.5m

Leave Yarmouth at 10:45, about an hour before the tide turns to ebb up the needles channel. There is a strong counter current on the island side of Hurst narrows if you keep close inshore. Keeping close to the island (beware of Warden Ledge and Tinker shoal) you can head up to The Needles and head towards Weymouth after SW Shingles.

It is 38nm from Yarmouth to Weymouth so about 6.5 hours with the tide. It looks like Lulworth Range range could be open as Lulworth and Tyneham village public access is blocked on 8/9 June. If it is, you will be requested to head outside the inner range marks. I will check nearer the time. It may well be worth heading 2 or 3 miles off St Albans Head as this avoids the race and the range.

Contact Weymouth Harbour on CH 12 when entering for berthing instructions. Depending on length we may be split between the C0ve and Custom House Quay. Watch out for the row boat ferry!

Pontoon drinks at 18:00

Saturday 8th June - Day in Weymouth

A day in Weymouth. Walks up the beach towards Preston, or bus to Portland to visit The Bill are an option.

Pontoon drinks at 18:00 and dinner in a Weymouth Hostelry in the evening.

Sunday 9th June - Weymouth to Cowes Yacht Haven (or destinations West/South)

HW Portsmouth 14:29 4.5m

If heading back to The Solent leave Weymouth at around 06:00 to push the last of the ebb before riding the flood back to Cowes Yacht Haven. The range is open this weekend so head out and give St Albans a wide berth again. Your choice of The Needles channel or the North Channel back into The Solent. Call Cowes Yacht Haven on Ch 80 for berthing instructions when you are in The Medina. Let them know you are booked in with the rally.

Pontoon drinks at 18:00.

Monday 10th June - Cowes Yacht Haven to Chichester Harbour

HW Chichester 15:12 4.4m

Leave Cowes Yacht Haven at 11:00 for an easy trip back to EYH.
