The EMSWORTH CRUISING ASSOCIATION was formed in 1966 by a group of boat owners based in Emsworth Yacht Harbour. Although the membership has increased and is now much more widely spread, Emsworth is still our focal point. Membership is open to anyone interested in boating, whether an owner or not. It is hoped that children will take part in events run especially for their benefit and it is the welcoming of children which distinguishes the ECA from other clubs where perhaps racing is the main aim. Our objectives are simple: to enjoy boating safely and to encourage the newcomer to cruising. Racing has a low priority although we do support and contribute to events organised by neighbouring clubs and a look at our programme will show the emphasis placed on cruising. We encourage sailing in company and whilst our weekend passages and summer cruises have a leader, this is for advice and guidance only.

Although the Association does not have a clubhouse, social activities are still an important feature. During the winter, suppers, film shows and lectures are held at local venues and, during the summer, our programme includes barbecues and dinners at other clubs plus spontaneous events arranged when cruising together. A newsletter is published regularly throughout the year, to which it is hoped everyone will contribute with articles from little 'gems' to a log of that special long distance cruise.

The Association has a tie, a badge, a scarf, a burgee, and polo shirt all of which are obtainable from the Membership Secretary at modest cost. The annual subscription is at present £35.00 (£23 for those without boats) and "runs" from January 1st to December 31st. This includes affiliation to the R.Y.A. which also allows us to use the facilities of many other yacht clubs, as members of a 'recognized club'.
