Poole Rally

19th - 23 August 2020

Poole Rally. 19th - 23rd August2020

This was formerly the Bournemouth Air Show rally but the event was cancelled owing to Covid 19.However, we decided to retain the rally in the calendar since it allows us the cruise beyond the Solent. Owing to the fact that we don't know what Covid restrictions will be in place, it is impossible to make any arrangements regarding pontoon parties and dining at this time.

Weds 19thYarmouth

HW Emsworth 1248, sill 7'4"; Portsmouth 1233, 4.7m. (Times are BST)

Depart as appropriate to catch the westbound tide down the Solent. I leave with 4' on the sill at EYH so I should be able to depart from 1030 onwards. However, it's quite a long sail down to Yarmouth so I might decide to leave on Tuesday and pop into Cowes for the night. Yarmouth HM has informed us that we will probably need to raft together as a rally group, so a risk assessment is being drafted to cater for this eventuality.

Thurs 20thPoole Town Quay Boat Haven

HW Poole Harbour Entrance11042.3m LW 1809 HW Portsmouth 13134.8m.

It's about 20 miles from Yarmouth to Poole entrance and I'd be aiming to arrive there at about LW, to avoid pushing against the tide at the entrance. By leavingat about 1200hrs we should keep the tide through to Poole. It's your choice whether you take the Needles Channel or the North Channel. We're booked into Poole Town Quay Boat Haven for two nights. It's one of the pricier marinas, but if you're berthed at EYH then you'll get 50% discount with the TransEurope scheme. Poole Harbour is fairly easy to navigate, though it's advisable to read up about it in advance. There's a small boat channel that runs alongside the main channel, but don't be tempted to cut corners because the shallows are in close proximity to it. Call 'Town Quay Boat Haven' on channel 80 on approaching the marina (phone 01202 649488).

Sat 22ndCowes Yacht Haven

HW Poole Harbour12232.3mLW 0713,HW Cowes1412,HW Portsmouth 14434.9m

It'll be quite an early start to get the Eastbound tide past Hurst and on to Cowes. We're booked into the Yacht Haven, so again, 50% TransEurope discount. On arrival, contact them on channel 80 for instructions(01983 299975).

Sun 23rd HW Emsworth 1540, sill 7'6"; HW Portsmouth 1535, 4.8m

Leave Cowes at your convenience to catch the tide back to Chichester Harbour.
