Joint EYH/ECA Cruise to Island Harbour Marina
Please see below details of the joint EYH/ECA cruise to Island Harbour (IoW) on the bank holiday of the Friday 8th to Sunday 10th May. Yes it is a bank holiday Friday this year!
If you are interested in coming then please complete and submit the ECA form at the bottom of this post , or see Lorna in the EYH harbour office*. If you could register as soon as possible then that will help in making reservations and planning. If you leave it too late we may not be able to accommodate you as it will be a busy bank holiday weekend on the water. A small deposit will be required in advance, please see the itinerary for details.
As you can see the tides are after midday over this weekend and it will be a Spring tide, so leaving from Emsworth on Friday should not be a problem. If you have a 1.5m draft you should be able to get out around 11:20 (~HW EYH -1.75). On the return for a 1.5m draft, departure from Island Harbour will likely be around 11:00 – 11:15 (HW Folly – 3h).
Do note that Island Harbour Marina is tidal with lock gates that open ~HW +/-3h so you need to plan to arrive no later than 15:20 BST to get in on Friday. This gives about 4 hours door to door (or longer if your draft is less than 1.5m). As it is 25nm from EYH to Island Harbour then this will be tight. If you motor at 5 – 5.5kn STW you should do it, as once outside Chichester Harbour entrance you will pick up the East going tide which should give you another couple of knots at springs. There is a waiting pontoon outside the Island Harbour Marina entrance, so if you do try and are late, you can still get ashore and then come in to the marina on the late tide (after the evening meal).
If you don’t want to risk it then there are options such as getting out of EYH the previous day and staying over on the waiting pontoon, anchoring off East Head, or head to anywhere of your choice not tide-bound. The later HW in the evening on the 7th at EYH is half past midnight so would mean going out to the waiting pontoon in the dark (Sunset ~20:30 BST).

17:00 Drinks on Koto (or on pontoon if we can’t all fit in)

Saturday 9th May
The day is yours. From Island Harbour there are walks into Cowes and to Newport. Alternately you can visit Osborne House. If you have not been there before it is well worth a visit. If there is enough interest shown on Friday evening I can book us in to the Bargeman’s Rest in Newport for lunch.
In the evening starting 17:30 there will be drinks and nibbles provided by EYH, followed by a BBQ, all in the BBQ area at the marina. Attendees to bring their own BBQ food (and additional drinks).
Sunday 10th May
As HW is in the afternoon then most boats who need to be back will be leaving Island Harbour as soon as they can escape the lock at around 11:00 – 11:15 BST to get back to EYH by 16:00 BST (1.5m draft). This gives about 5 hours to get back. If you do not need to be back then see the OOD for possible options for onward sailing.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the cruise Officer Of The Day (OOD), Neil Fuller (email@example.com) (yacht Koto) if you have any questions.
