ECA Easter Rally to Cowes and Southampton 10th to 13th April 2020.
This is the ECA Easter Rally with visits to Cowes Yacht Haven, Southampton Town Quay and Ocean Village Marinas, with a pre-booked meal on the Saturday evening in Southampton’s old town.
The rally will start on Friday 10th with the first stop at Cowes Yacht Haven which is a Transeurope marina so a fifty percent deduction in berthing fees should be available to EYH berth holders.
HW Portsmouth is at 1348 BST and it is a 4.9m Spring tide.
For those berthed at EYH with a 1.5m draft this will mean leaving around 1230.
Voyage is approximately 20nM and should take about four hours getting into Cowes around 1630.
Drinks and nibbles will be alongside Carina at 1800, our cockpit is tiny.
On Friday evening you can either eat on board or visit one of the many eateries in Cowes.
Saturday 11th April will see us crossing the Solent and sailing up Southampton Water to the Town Quay Marina. You will be pleased to hear that this is also a Transeurope marina.
HW Portsmouth is 1438 BST, 4.8m
LW Southampton 0730 and 1950 BST.
Distance from Cowes to Town Quay is approximately 9nM which should take about two hours.
Setting out from Cowes around 1200 will catch the last of the flood up Southampton Water and avoid the earlier strong cross currents in the Solent. It also allows a morning wander around Cowes.
Saturday’s evening meal has been booked for 1930 at the Duke of Wellington. This is located in the old part of Southampton and offers a reasonably priced pub menu.
Menu options will need to be pre-booked and will appear on the booking form closer to the rally date.
Sunday the 12th April we will need to move around the corner to the Ocean Village Marina as Town Quay cannot guarantee us berths for the Sunday night.
We will need to move by noon. Tides are not critical and there are no access restrictions on either Town Quay or Ocean Village so you can make the move anytime before noon.
There are several restaurant pub options at Ocean Village including a Wetherspoons for the evening meal or we can choose from the many options in Southampton town.
The Solent Sky Museum is situated close to Ocean Village should you be interested in aircraft.
On Monday 13th April we will be returning to our respective home ports.
HW Portsmouth is at 1635 BST, 4.4m.
For those heading back to Chichester Harbour, reaching West Pole by 1500 will avoid a foul tide across Hayling Bay. This is a 20nM trip making it an 1100 start at 5Knts.
