Commodore’s Chat

Hi All,

As we don’t publish the newsletter in the summer and it’s been a while I thought I would put a few words down to let you know what is going on.

Koto, in the company of fellow ECA boats Carina and Bob, has spent the last 5 weeks exploring the North Brittany coast. In a packed programme we visited Cherbourg, St Peter Port, St Malo, Plouer (River Rance), St Cast, Dahouet, St Quay, Binic (by bus), Lezardrieux (where we met up with Witch Hazel), Pontrieux, Paimpol (by train), and Treguier, before returning via St Peter Port and Cherbourg. All in glorious weather. A more detailed account will appear in the next newsletter.

As I write this the Brighton Rally, which turned into the Hamble Rally due to lack of interest took place over the weekend. We had 6 boats booked in to Universal Marina (TransEurope) with 4 making it. Cassini still has engine troubles and Carina was worried about depth over the EYH sill. Koto, Bob, Mudlark, and Winkle all made it and a good time was had by all. Some went to Bembridge in the fog afterwards. Again a more detailed report to appear in the next newsletter.

Coming up next we have the Cowes Rally (including a visit to SIBs for those interested) on the 13th Sept. Charles is OOD for that one so again let him know as soon as possible via Webform if you are intending to come.

The final rally of the year is to Bembridge (12th Oct). This deliberately coincides with the IOW Beer and Bus Festival ( of which several routes go through Bembridge. Busses are free and ECA have purchased some programmes to support the event. Andy B is the OOD for this one and would love to hear from you.

After the rallies we move into our Autumn/Winter programme.

The AGM is on the 19th October and will be held at Eames Farm. This will be followed by a fish and chip supper. I think this will be a good opportunity to discuss what you thought of the programme this year and what you would like to see in next year’s one. Watch out for more details next month.

The November event is yet to be finalised but is likely to be either the 9th or 16th November and will be at a restaurant/hostelry in Emsworth. Again full details will be published next month.

The December Christmas Meal will again be at 36 On the Quay at lunchtime on the 14th December.

As always if you have anything you want to raise then do not hesitate to contact me.
