ECA Jazz on the Quay Rally to Bembridge, 10 & 11 June 2017
Sat 10th June, HW Portsmouth BST 13.10 (4.4m). Bembridge Approaches HW 13.00 (4.5m). Bembridge Harbour HW 13.30 (3.0m)
It’s a lazy 11.10 am (or later) start time from EYH to Bembridge where we will meet alongside the Duver pontoon as soon after high tide as you can make it. For a boat drawing 1.5m entry should be safe up to two hours either side of HW but becomes risky if not impossible by -3 HW +3. Use the website www.bembridgeharbour.co.uk which in the top RH corner gives the height over the bar. Please call “Bembridge Harbour” on VHF channel 80 as you round the last bend and the pontoons come into sight for berthing instructions or look out for Badgie Two since they normally try to put us all together. However if crowded, they sometimes put me alongside the walk-ashore pontoon where it dries so unless you too can take the ground, stick to the main East/West pontoon where directed. There will be informal hospitality on board Badgie Two from 15.30 (Yes, that’s right 3.30 pm!). The choice will be whether to eat on board your own boat or partake of the food available in the evening at the Quay. This is described as Improved Street Food and Gemma will run a “pop-up” cash bar. All profits go to charity (The Sophie Rolf Trust) and they will take a dim view if you take your own drink. The jazz takes place between 5.30 pm and 10.30 pm at the head of the walk-ashore pontoon with a marquee for shelter. An adult ticket is £5 (child 5 and over £2) but you need to buy them yourself in advance from Bembridge Harbour (tel: 01983 872828 email: firstname.lastname@example.org) or Brading Haven YC or Bembridge SC. From 1st April they should be available on-line via the Harbour website. The entertainers are the Unity Stompers Jazz Band and Cat Skelington 4 piece, Old Time Gypsy Jazz. There are chairs and tables provided but if you can squeeze a couple of folding stools onto your boat I suggest you take them along. If anyone fancies a nightcap on Badgie Two once the music stops they will be most welcome.
Sunday 11th June, HW Portsmouth BST 13.40 (4.4m). Bembridge Approaches HW 13.30 (4.5m). Bembridge Harbour HW 14.00 (3.0m)
Again, a fairly civilised start to the day with those wishing to get back to EYH needing to leave just around noon to ensure passing the sill near to HW or just after.
Before the event to make contact telephone on 02392 426460 or email Derek.email@example.com. During the event use VHF Channel 16/08 while on board and awake. My MMSI is 235035554 and my mobile number is 07572 430145.
I look forward to seeing you!
Please register interest via the form below by 1st June if you are thinking of coming, so I can let Bembridge know the number of boats. Late comers welcome but no guarantee of a place alongside! If you have any disability issues or young children on board please give Gordon Wight a call (07825 155324, Gordon@bembridgeharbour.co.uk) and he will try to find an easy access spot. Don’t forget to buy your entry tickets in advance – sooner the better.
