Yarmouth Old Gaffers Festival
Friday 29 May- Sunday 31 June 2014
As an additional gathering, the ECA last year made a visit to the annual Yarmouth Old Gaffers Festival for traditional boats, beer, street music, diverse entertainments and the French Market. Sad to report no ferrets last year but classic cars were in attendance.
Needless to say, Yarmouth Harbour is best avoided for the duration so if anyone wants to visit the Festival by water it will be necessary to reach a suitable Marina (usually Shepards) on the Friday. It will then be necessary to take public transport to Yarmouth: if using the bus, the Number 1 runs into Newport (10 minute ride) and the Number 7 will take you on to Yarmouth (35 minutes but the scenery is lovely). Both run until late at night. (The bus people Southern Vectis have a website with timetables). It is, of course also possible to visit by foot from the mainland via the Lymington ferry.
Restaurants in Yarmouth are not taking bookings during the Festival so arrangements for evening festivities might be best arranged on the spot.
Sadly, we shall not be at Yarmouth with Witch Hazel ourselves this year, due to circumstances foreseen and unforeseen, but the Festival makes a good day out if you are planning an outing this weekend.
IF YOU WISH TO JOIN, PLEASE LET US KNOW RIGHT AWAY AND WE SHALL LOOK INTO MARINA AVAILABILITY
