Boat Show Rally to Shepards Wharf, Cowes, 20th/22nd Sept 2013
Friday 20th September HW Portsmouth BST 12.37 (4.9m)
It’s a reasonable 10.30 am start time from EYH with a favourable tide to Cowes where some of us will meet on Friday. Shepard’s Wharf are expecting us from midday onwards. Please call Shepard’s Wharf on VHF channel 80 (or if no response try 69) for berthing instructions or look out for Badgie Two since they normally try to put us all together. There will be informal hospitality on board Badgie Two from 17.30 when people can decide whether to eat communally and, if so, where. There is a wide variety of eating and drinking places in Cowes at prices and tastes to suit all pockets and palates. The fish and chip shop is popular.
Saturday 21st September HW Portsmouth BST 13.18 (4.9m)
A choice of instructions here; those who arrived on Friday may take the Red Jet ferry to Southampton where the Boat Show will be on, very close to the ferry terminal. Red Jet do a combined crossing and Show entrance ticket which saves a ‘few bob’.
For those who only take the week-end, this can be treated as an ordinary Saturday-Sunday out-and-back rally with just the one night stop in Cowes. The usual drinks party will be held on Badgie Two at 18.00. Please bring a bottle and some nibbles if possible, and be prepared to show off whatever you bought at the Show or just the brochures if that’s all you came away with. Last year we ate ‘on site’ but this restaurant has changed hands and is now considered to be expensive. We have also eaten in the Island Sailing Club and we may be able to book that again this year if the majority wish to do so. Perhaps you would let me know your preference when registering interest in attending the rally and if enough are interested I will try to book us a table. Telephone me on 01329 823962 or email Derek.firstname.lastname@example.org. Otherwise, further eating and drinking as for Friday.
Sunday 22nd September HW Portsmouth BST 14.00 (4.8m)
It should be an easy ride back to Emsworth aiming to be at the Chi bar by about 13.00 BST to avoid the onset of the adverse tidal stream in the Solent and, since it is a fairly big tide, too strong an adverse current on the way up the harbour to EYH, suggesting a departure at about 10.00 BST.
VHF Channel 16/08 while on board and awake. My MMSI is 235035554 and my mobile number is 07572 430145.
I look forward to seeing you!
Please register interest by 15th September if you are thinking of coming, so we can book catering. Late comers welcome but no guarantee of a place at the table!
Derek Ellinor, ‘Badgie Two’
