Pot Luck Rally to Littlehampton – 20th-22nd April 2012
|The plan is to try something a little different by turning left at Chichester Bar and heading up Channel to Littlehampton. It is necessary to work the spring tides, cill's & entrances. The effort is rewarded (I hope) with a Town Quay mooring & a Saturday night out at the Silk Road Mediterranean Restaurant with entertainment by Serita, their "Belly Dancer"! We would make use of the Looe Channel short cut.|
Off Bracklesham the flood starts HW Portsmouth +5 hrs &
the ebb stream at HW Portsmouth -1½ hrs.
The Looe Channel:- The flood starts +0445 Dover setting 097° T. but later turns southward to end in a direction 110° T. The ebb begins -0115 Dover, sets due west, turns 10° northward during its maximum rate (2.5 kts @ springs) but ends due west again. (Watch cross track error whilst transiting the Looe Channel.)
In the Littlehampton approaches the Westerly going stream is 1.5 hrs before until 4 hrs after HW Littlehampton. The Easterly stream starts 1.5 hrs before LW & runs until 2 hrs before HW Littlehampton. This is a “back eddy” & contrary to the main stream. Entrance to Littlehampton: the best time is -2 to +1 HW Littlehampton. (note: the spring ebb can reach 5kts in the entrance channel.)
|Friday 20th April.||HW Portsmouth||12:04 (4.4m)|
|Depart EYH @ your convenience and assemble at the East Head anchorage for an early morning start. Boats from other moorings will arrive at their convenience.|
|Saturday 21st April.||HW Portsmouth||00:19 (4.5m)||12:38 (4.4m)|
|Making sense of the above: the Flood starts about 0500 BST and the west going stream (a back eddy) at Littlehampton starts at about 1100 BST, 1.5 hrs before local HW (the main stream turns later offshore). So an early start is best. Departure 0700 BST West Pole latest and on between Boulder & Street. Berthing alongside at the Town Quay visitors moorings. John & Anne look forward to seeing you on board Golden Ibis for drinks and nibbles at 17:30 pm. We then have a table reserved for us at the Silk Road Restaurant at 19:30.|
|Sunday 22nd April.||HW Portsmouth||00:51 (4.6m)||13:11 (4.5m)|
|Monday 23rd April.||HW Portsmouth||01:23 (4.6m)||13:45 (4.5m)|
