ECA Queen Diamond Jubilee Rally, around the IOW with stops,
2nd – 5th June 2012

What better way to celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee than to go sailing and with the extra days holiday (thanks Liz) there is a great opportunity to sail the less well travelled route to the west Solent and go round the south side of the IOW. If the winds are inclement, or for those crews who do not wish to go the wrong way, there is of course the option to go the right way, through the Solent.
West Pole – Lymington (40nm)
Saturday 2nd June HW Portsmouth BST 09:56 (4.4m)
West Pole – St Catherines point 19nm
St Catherine point – Needles (bridge) 14nm
Needles (bridge) – Lymington (7nm)
An early start and a long sail is required to get around the south side of the IOW during the west going stream. This starts at Bembridge Ledge at HW Portsmouth, giving 5 hours of fair tide before the flood takes us back into the west Solent along the Needles channel at about 15:00. If we arrange to meet at the West Pole at about 08:00 we should be able to be near Bembridge Ledge just before the tide turns.
We are booked into Lymington Yacht Haven and drinks and nibbles will be served on Ruahine at 19:00 after which we can decide on where to unwind with a meal and a few drinks…
Sunday 3rd June: Lymington
A leisurely day, after the long sail on Saturday. Numerous options are available including a walk to Keyhaven through the salt marshes and a meal at the Gun Inn or various other options around the new forest.
Lymington – Cowes (9nm) HW Portsmouth
Monday 4th June HW Portsmouth BST 11:50 (4.7m)
The flood runs from about 0500 to 1000 giving a fairly early start and a short sail down to Cowes where we are booked into Shepards Wharf marina. CowesFest – Boat and Leisure festival is being held on 4th and 5th June so should give us plenty to do and see on arrival.
Cowes – Emsworth (20nm)
Tuesday 5th June HW Portsmouth BST 12:44 (4.8m)
…and finally the sail back home.
I will listen out on Channel 16/08.
Please let me know as soon as you can if you plan to come so that I can confirm the various bookings.
