Frostbite Rally to Portsmouth & Cowes 15-17th January 2010
Friday 15th January. HW Portsmouth 11:40 (4.3m)
As seems to have become my habit the ECA Rally Season 2010 will get off to an earlier start with a pre-Frostbite Frostbite trip to Portsmouth. I’ve booked us into Haslar Marina for the Friday night.
I anticipate departing EYH at about 10:00 and making for Portsmouth. There, I recommend a short-ish walk to the Clarence where they brew their own beer, followed by nose bag in the lightship, but other options are Landers Restaurant opposite the marina office or the Chinese at the ferry pier-head, where you can eat as much as you like for around £15. Once I know who hopes to make it I’ll take a straw poll and make the appropriate booking.
Saturday 16th January. HW Portsmouth 12:10 (4.4m)
A lie-in for me and the other work shy in Haslar, before riding the ebb down to Cowes where I hope we’ll be joined by those of you who couldn’t get away until now.
We’re booked into Shepards Wharf where drinks and nibbles will be served aboard Kotka from 17:30hrs, earlier if thirst insists. Please bring a bottle (alcohol is the preferred beverage!) as Christmas may well have depleted our bar! Those who do not wish to sail may like to join us via car/ferry
I’ve booked us into the Island Sailing Club, where Helen & I are members, for dinner at 7:30 for 8:00pm. The ISC does a very reasonable, if simple, fixed price menu and there’s an excellent bar with comfy chairs round a roaring fire and splendid views over the Solent.
Sunday 17th January. HW Portsmouth 12:50 (4.4m)
Just about time for breakfast (on board or, the Octopussy’s Garden cafe, opposite the ISC, comes highly recommended) before having to leave to catch (or rather not catch) the sill at EYH.
I will listen out on Channel 16/08 (MMSI 235013225) whilst aboard and also have the mobile (07778 037 544) to hand.
Please let me know if you plan to come and on which day. Of course the weather at this time of year may prevent sailing so do also let me know if you have decided not to come, so that I can confirm numbers with the marinas and eateries.
