ECA Rally to the Royal Clarence Yard, Portsmouth: 17th / 18th April 2010
| Saturday 17th April | HW Portsmouth | 01:52 BST (4.7m) | |
| 14:16 BST (4.6m) | |||
| A nice short early season hop to the charming Fleshpots of Gosport and the serious Retail Therapy of Gunwharf Quays for those who missed the Bembridge Rally as a shakedown cruise due to the weather or their boat still being fettled, or those still thawing out from Bembridge or the Easter Rallies! | |||
| At the suggestion of ECA members who know; A change to a new more sheltered from SW and ferry swells venue rather than bumpy old Haslar Marina. | |||
| For those leaving Chichester Harbour, allow an hour down to Hayling Island SC from EYH, an hour’s sail out to the Forts, the Small Boat Channel or the Inshore Boat Channel through the Submarine barrier, and another hour approximately before being safely berthed inside The Royal Clarence Marina, Portsmouth and tucking into the drinks and nibbles. | |||
| On entering Portsmouth Harbour, remember to keep to the left/port side of the entrance channel from the harbour mouth until you are past the ‘Ballast’ Channel pile marker opposite Haslar Marina; Portsmouth Regulations. | |||
| The entrance to the Royal Clarence Marina is just past the Gosport Ferry terminal and refuelling berth, on the left/port hand side. | |||
| Call them up on VHF Ch 80, Call sign - Royal Clarence Marina or phone 023 9252 3523 and tell them you are with the ECA Rally when requesting berthing instructions. | |||
| The Royal Clarence Marina has a website with a layout map at this page. | |||
| Keep clear of all moving or stationary warships or the QHM Patrol Launches may extend your sailing vocabulary, particularly if the Alert state has been heightened; QHM LTNM’s 28/07 & 40/05. | |||
| Saturday Evening Entertainment; 17:30 hours; Look for the Rally Flag.Drinks and Nibbles on Tringa II, or if Derek & Sheila Ellinore are around, aboard the deceptively spacious ‘Badgie Two’, whose home marina this is. | |||
| Then we can decide whether to dine aboard, a short walk away at a Gosport Hard Chinese or Indian, or pub grub at the Commodore’s favourite Gosport watering hole, “The Clarence”, meeting up there later if need be. | |||
| Sunday 18th April | HW Portsmouth | 02:30 BST (4.6m) | |
| 14:59 BST (4.5m) | |||
| Agenda: Nurse sore heads, attempt breakfast and get out of Bembridge as soon as the tide allows, especially for those who have to cheat the sill at EYH. However, with the tide later in the day, those who aren't in a rush have time for a lunchtime pint! | |||
